Sean D. Burdick is the founder of Burdick Patents and brings to the practice over 23 years of experience in patent and trademark prosecution.  Since 2015, Mr. Burdick worked alongside Frank J. Dykas, the longest-practicing intellectual property lawyer in Idaho, and assumed his practice when he retired in 2018.  Originally from Idaho Falls and a graduate of the University of Idaho College of Engineering, Mr. Burdick worked as an engineer in the nuclear power field for 10 years before earning his law degree from the University of San Diego and practicing patent law with Howrey Simon Arnold & White.

Mr. Burdick previously served as in-house counsel for Uniloc where he developed a 600-patent portfolio and was eventually promoted to President and General Counsel to oversee patent licensing and litigation.  Mr. Burdick is admitted to practice in California, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, and has represented inventors in Reexamination and Inter Partes Reviews before the Patent Trial & Appeal Board.

Also a registered Professional Engineer, Mr. Burdick has authored over 300 patents in a diversity of fields including Agriculture, Automotive Systems, Construction, Control Systems, Culinary Arts, Defense Systems, Electronics, Fuel Cells, Mechanical Systems, Medical Devices, Musical Instruments, Power Generation, and Software.

Colin L. Honan

Colin L. Honan has been an associate patent attorney with Burdick Patents since February of 2022.  Mr. Honan graduated from the University of Idaho College of Law, Boise campus in May of 2020.  Mr. Honan is admitted to practice in Idaho and in the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and has worked as a patent attorney in Boise, Idaho since December 2020.

Mr. Honan is originally from Illinois, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Bradley University.  Law school brought Mr. Honan to Idaho but the city of Boise, the surrounding mountains, and Idaho’s seemingly unlimited outdoor activities have kept him local.  When Mr. Honan is not working, he can typically be found in the mountains snowboarding or hiking or perfecting his swing at a local golf course.
